Nutrition and Fitness

NAHC provides a variety of nutrition and physical fitness services that enhance health promotion and disease prevention.

Nutrition Services

  • Individual counseling for the management or prevention of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and obesity
  • Classes on a variety of nutrition and physical fitness topics
  • Live cooking demonstrations to teach healthy food preparation, shopping and meal planning
  • Community nutrition and fitness education
  • Pregnancy counseling throughout pregnancy and the post-partum period
  • Diabetes screening at community events
NAHC also offers several programs for chronic disease prevention and management, including:
  • PHASE: Preventing Heart Attacks and Strokes Everyday. This program involves working closely with your health care provider to help improve your blood pressure, cholesterol, stress, and other cardiovascular risk factors. PHASE classes, cooking demos, and incentives are available for participants.
  • CO-OP: Childhood Overweight & Obesity Prevention. This program is being developed to address the childhood obesity epidemic through a comprehensive and holistic approach. Stay tuned for more information.
  • ACE: Alameda County Excellence. A program to support comprehensive health care for those living with chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol.
