Youth Services

Our mission is to build strong and resilient Native youths and families through education, skill building and community organizing activities.

Traditional Arts

Young people develop self-confidence and cultural pride through artistic self-expression and creative activities. Our program integrates traditional and contemporary Native American art forms as well as other diverse styles, challenging youth to use their creativity and imagination.

Educational Support

Our program aim is to challenge and inspire Native American youth to pursue secondary education and to provide youth with the skills and knowledge to improve learning habits.

After school study hall is available at the American Indian Public Charter School, a safe, drug-and-alcohol-free atmosphere.

Tribal Athletics

The Tribal Athletics Program sports include basketball, soccer, flag football, softball and introductory lacrosse. Teams meet after school and on weekends. These programs develop commitment, teamwork, self-discipline and illustrate the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle that reduces the incidence diabetes, obesity, and other health risks.

Violence Prevention

The Violence Prevention program provides anger management and substance abuse prevention training to youths, including former gang-related youth. NAHC also collaborates with other ethnic and cultural groups in Oakland to reduce gang violence.

Our approach is culturally relevant and family-centered. We combine prevention, intervention and treatment to address the changing needs of Native youth in an urban environment.

Our program allows Native American youths to develop skills according to their strengths and interests while challenging them to understand the relationship between commitment, dedication and success. Our youths participate in a wide variety of cultural and recreational activities.
